Catherine Fulvio Garden.JPGCatherine is fast becoming a household name, having now completed two TV series for RTE and launched her first cookbook, she has made an impression on many Irish homes for providing quick and easy food suitable for family life and entertaining friends.

Although her love of food is plain to see, it’s Catherine’s entrepreneurial skills that have impressed many. Along with her Sicilian husband, Claudio Fulvio, Catherine took over the running of Ballyknocken House in 1999 from her parents and together they renovated the business creating a 4 star guesthouse and the award-winning Ballyknocken Cookery School.

With a very strong business & marketing background, Catherine hosts weekly scheduled courses open to the public. She also specialises in creating tailor-made courses for companies seeking alternative and highly creative team-building exercises and incentive events. The cookery school has become a centre for learning culinary skills with an emphasis on local & seasonal produce, often the fruit and veg used both in the Guesthouse and the Cookery School are direct from Ballyknocken gardens. The cookery school is state of the art, with large seating and hands on capacity for individuals and corporate groups. Top of the range equipment such a Smeg and Newbridge Home is stocked.

Catherine also regularly speaks at high profile events including the National Women’s Conference and The Irish Hotels’ Federation Annual Conference and is an accomplished and confident speaker.

Since taking over Ballyknocken House, both Catherine and Ballyknocken have attracted much media interest. She first appeared on RTE’s Nationwide in 2007 before becoming a regular guest Chef on Ireland’s national morning show, Ireland AM, in 2007. Over a two year period Catherine compiled a series of food topics from concept through to titles, format and recipes; these were very well received.

In 2008 both Belgian & Dutch TV featured a programme on Wicklow Lamb with Catherine and a Belgian Michelin chef cooking, this was filmed on site at Ballyknocken House & Cookery School in September 2008. Her first TV series, “Catherine’s Italian Kitchen”, was aired on RTE in September 2009, with her second series, “Catherine’s Roman Holiday” following in September 2010.

Her first cookbook “Catherine’s Italian Kitchen”, accompanies the TV series and was published by Gill & MacMillan in September 2010. It was nominated for an Irish Book Award and won two awards at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards for Best Italian Cuisine Cookbook and Best Television Celebrity Cookbook. The overall winner will be announced at the Paris Cookbook Fair on March 3 2011, when “Catherine’s Italian Kitchen” will represent Ireland when the judges deliberate at the best in the world stage of the competition.

Catherine appears regularly on RTE’s FOUR Live daily show and has been a guest on NBCs Today Show in the United States and on Market Kitchen in the UK. She is also a familiar voice on RTE’s Pat Kenny Show, the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show on Today FM and the Morning Show on East Coast FM. She has also been seen on the UKTV Good Food Channel (where her second series is currently being run), on Discovery Channel in US & Canada; Gentse Waterzooi – Belgium’s’ Leading Culinary travel programme. Mrs. Kurihara – Japan’s Delia Smith / Martha Stewart visited Ballyknocken for a cookery course and thereafter featured Catherine’s cooking intensively in the quarterly high gloss magazine “Stukei Recipe”.

Without doubt Ballyknocken House & Cookery School is a labour of love for Catherine with both herself and Ballyknocken receiving many accolades and awards along the way. Catherine hosts Cookery Demonstrations both at home and abroad for Tourism Ireland, Bord Bia and Good Food Ireland. She has also participated at Ireland’s main Food Festivals including Taste of Dublin in the prestigious Iveagh Gardens, Taste of Christmas in the Dublin Convention Centre as well as at some of the more regional events such as Savour in Kilkenny and the Donegal Food Festival.

Over the years Catherine has written for many Irish publications including being food writer for Image Magazine (2010) and the Irish Garden Magazine (2007-2010). In 2007 she complied a major feature for “Country Gardens”, one of the US best selling specialist magazines. She is a regular contributor to Woman’s Way (Ireland’s best-selling women’s magazine) and is currently weekly celebrity chef writer for the Sunday World Magazine.

Catherine’s style of cooking is modern Irish, with the emphasis on entertaining and local ingredients are of utmost importance. 2010 was a very busy year for Catherine and already 2011 has got off to a hectic start with lots planned for the year ahead. She is currently researching her next TV series and her second book as well as expanding courses and recipes available at Ballyknocken Cookery School.

With her strong business background, entrepreneurial flair and international success as a commentator, author, TV presenter, food writer and chef Catherine makes her a strong addition to any speaker line-up.
